"You can't fix it. You can't make it go away.
I don't know what you're going to do about it,
But I know what I'm going to do about it. I'm just
going to walk away from it. Maybe
A small part of it will die if I'm not around
feeding it anymore."

The white man pathology

"My son’s Guyanese-Canadian teacher and the Muslim Milton scholar I went to high school with and the Sikh writer I squabble about Harold Innis with and my Ishmaeli accountant, we can all be good little Torontonians of the middle class, deflecting the differences we have been trained to respect. But in a car in the carbon monoxide-infused queue waiting to enter Detroit, their beings diverge drastically from mine.
I am white. They are not. They are vulnerable. I am not."

Every right wing nut in the NW, including elected ones, wants to join the refuge takeover. How does this end peacefully?
A final gesture: deputize a large posse of locals, let them confront the militia. If it doesn't work, call in the national guard.

‘I went to join Isis in Syria, taking my four-year-old. It was a journey into hell’
http://gu.com/p/4fkb8?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Bloggeroid
"Kasiki is one of the few western women who have been to the capital of the Isis-declared caliphate at Raqqa in Syria and returned to recount the tale. It was, she said in her first interview with a British newspaper, like a journey into a hell from which there seemed no return.
“I have felt so guilty. I have asked myself how I can live with what I have done, taking my son to Syria,” she told the Observer. “I have hated those who manipulated me, exploited my naivety, my weakness, my insecurity. I have hated myself.”

Oregon militia stand their ground but local residents want 'these thugs' gone

"But on Saturday morning, Grasty, the local judge who has worked for years to push back against excessive federal regulations, said he feared the Malheur takeover could severely impede the very efforts the militiamen say they support. “Bundy just put us back a decade or two,” he said. “The message weeks, months, years from now – everybody will see this as a dangerous place to come. That just makes me sick.”
On the refuge, even some Bundy supporters were expressing doubts by the end of the week. “I hope to see them lay down their firearms,” said Melvin Lee, a 45-year-old protester from Tucson, Arizona, who has been a regular presence at the occupation and has recently encouraged friends to leave with him. “We need to put the story back on the corruption and the federal government.” He admitted that he also fears bloodshed if this lasts much longer: “I’m trying to keep them from getting killed.”

Sketch and Thoreau
In his essay on Civil Disobedience, Thoreau wrote a passage that activists prefer to ignore: that he came into this world not to change it but to live in it, be it good or bad. Inside-out trumps outside-in.
By the same measure, the 50s trump the 60s for radical ideas. This was the cause of Kerouac's dismay, however wrapped in alcoholic self-pity.
This is not how popular history reads it, of course. But the Beats were far more extraordinary than what followed. But they looked inward, not outward.
Sketch digs Thoreau perfectly. I see it in his relaxation. In his bark. He is here to be a dog.

The more I work on the new play, page by slow page, the more miraculous the 6 day wonder. How could that possibly have happened?
In a first draft, I focus on structure and story. The foundation. Then I focus on character, which is the heart of my plays. Then it needs the voices of actors.

The demands will never be met, even though Fed ruling was unfortunate and unjust. So the militia backs down or gets forced out, likely to be violent. Maybe they have a martyr complex.

"Native Americans owned land that has become the Malheur Wildlife Refuge; portions of it had some brief life as a federal reservation, and it has remained in federal hands ever since. So, while this seems unlikely, if land were to be truly "returned," Bundy and his crew probably would not rank among those with a claim. That's just the plain, simple and historically accurate truth."
