I'm On the Downhill Side

I'm on the downhill side
my best years far behind
and yet I don't complain
but celebrate my past

I'm on the downhill side
and celebrate alone
it's either this or not
celebrate at all

maybe down the road
long after dust to dust
a stranger will respond
to something that I wrote

which really is the point
more than here and now
to write something so true
it transcends space and time

this is what I grasped
is this what I reached?
I'll be the last to know
I'm on the downhill side
