Balancing the Books
The work in my literary archive
came at a significant cost
and the question I ask myself
in my old age is whether
the price was worth it.
I don't know the answer.
And the answer may well change
through time. At the time,
of course it was worth it
and perhaps that's all
that can be said on the matter.
But unlike Dorothy Parker
I much prefer writing
to having written.
