Satire Lives! June 1, 2014
Thumbs are up. This book is cleverly written in verse and a popular tune is suggested for each verse. Satire lives and elevates political debate to a higher level!

Stealing the wrong identity (Novella) November 24, 2013
Excellelent, page turning novella. Had me hooked from the unusual begining until the happy, if unpredictable ending..would reccomend to a friend.
Great Story September 16, 2013
This is truly a great story. Many twists and turns, all plausible. Occam' s razor is at work and the simplest solution is the correct one.

Very Good Read August 4, 2013
Mr. Deemer captured the spirit of Los Angeles in the '50s perfectly.
I enjoy the noir-esque hard-boiled detective immensely. The protagonist isn't tall, dark and handsome and he uses his brains instead of his looks to get the information he needs. He spends a lot of time in the bad parts of town, trailing a variety of unsavory characters to solve his case.

Thoroughly enjoyed the style of the writer and the structure of the story. Have already looked for other books by this author to read.

One man's journey becomes a treatise on living in the 21st century August 1, 2013
Carleton Jones, or CJ, is a 75-year-old retired history professor with an ear for West Coast jazz, fifties-era folk music, and books about the evils of the modern world. He plays guitar in his friend Matt's folk group, he's writing a book called "You Get the History You Deserve: The Disintegration of the American Dream," and he's struggling to make sense of a world that no longer has meaning for him. Charles Deemer's SODOM,...Read More

Short and sweet -- Deemer's little story packs a punch July 30, 2013
The concept behind Charles Deemer's "Stories in Overdrive" series is simple - these are short, easy-to-read stories that encapsulate a universal message in very few words. Deemer is writing for the modern reader, who steals time for books in between busy workdays and family obligations. His readers are used to reading on cell phones and tablets, therefore his stories are easily accessible on small screens. EMIL'S LAST ADVENTURE,...Read More
what a great book July 27, 2013
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The ending was a total surprise as it seemed so many other avenues of solution were involved. Where else but in total recovery from cancer can a writer from Hollywood find excitement and adventure in a small Northern Nevada town. Made me want to go there and see if it really existed. I'll read more of this guys work. If you love a good mystery you'll love this one!

This fast paced and intriguing book will keep you glued to the pages. July 3, 2013
Refugee from Roswell by Charles Deemer is a great book for all you science fiction readers looking for a short read with an excellent storyline. This fast paced and intriguing book will keep you glued to the pages.
The author did a great job of developing the storyline and keeping it both believable and real. The story was easy to follow even with all the twist and character shifts.

Great story, outstanding new format June 27, 2013
This hybrid between novella and screenwriting is fantastic - I'm sure it will prove to be a groundbreaking new form of narrative. As a screenplay writer, I'm constantly reading as many scripts I can get my hands on to hone my craft. Separately, when I can find time, I read short stories, novellas or books for pleasure. These Stories in Overdrive bridge the gulf between the script and the novel and create a fast-paced narrative...Read More

Wonderful January 15, 2013
This book captivated me from the start to the end. The vicariousness of individuals with different moralities, outlooks on life and ambitions make for a splendidly complex universe through which we are taken. Somehow it reminded me of college and endless days discussing 'character is fate' in english literature; that is not the whole story in Emmett's Gift though, there are emotional layers beyond the obvious.
