I couldn't figure out why Safeway was opening a new store with a fancy new Freddy's just down the road. After visiting it I now know: they have a huge Kosher dept - fresh, frozen, deli - and no one else close by does. And there's a sizable Jewish community here, who have a significant drive for Kosher food. No longer. Good market research, I assume.
