The Rules
once you understand
you are not safe
your loved ones
are not safe
without security
without predictability
these lives we live
are a crapshoot
then when it's your turn
for devastating tragedy
you can get some comfort
from not being alone
and in the meantime
you can open your senses
to the remarkable gift
of mundane ordinary things
a walk to the mailbox
tug of war with the dog
a greeting on the street
and Nature everywhere
miracles made greater
by their very fragility
as the poet cummimgs
put it best
"the most who die
the more we live"
