Routine

Routine

people always ask me
how are you?
and I always reply
I'm fine or I'm okay
without thinking about it

because listen here
I spent 50 years
filling a literary archive
in response to it
I can't be expected
to provide an easy answer
the Cliffs Notes version
the Classics Comics version

so I give you
the usual routine
of cliches and half truths
which you gladly accept
and go on you way

and the world at large
doesn't care one way
or the other
