Mortality

Call from a writer friend from the Golden Days ... in hospital on his death bed, lungs shot. Eccentric, singular, fled to Canada to avoid Vietnam, returned, good poet, essayist, temperamental, lived on his own terms, the final existential honor. "I had a good run."

Will visit bedside tomorrow.
