This was a major sport when I was a kid. Part of it was living near Santa Anita. A bigger part was that racing's legal gambling had no competitors from casinos and lotteries in those days.
Horse racing has fallen so much that NPR's sports report was all about playoffs this morning. Not one word about Calif Chrome going for the Triple Crown on Saturday. Sad.
