Mary Cain breaks own world record

BOSTON -- Mary Cain broke her own world junior indoor record in the 1,000 meters Saturday, winning the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in 2 minutes, 35.80 seconds at the Reggie Lewis Center.
The 17-year-old Cain, a high school senior from Bronxville, N.Y., broke the mark of 2:39.25 she set at Boston University on Jan. 16 in her second meet as a pro. She was 1.61 seconds off Jen Toomey's U.S. record.
