The Flesh of Friendship

When I outlive a close friend
I trade the flesh of friendship
for something abstract
the memory of friendship

and my friend becomes the star
of a movie in my head
all images and sound track
"based on a true story"

and no matter how vivid the movie
3D and stereo, nothing compares
to the feel of flesh on my hand
when I slap a good buddy
on the back.

Commission, Oregon Public Broadcasting, to write teleplay on Sen. Wayne Morse. Never produced. Becomes one-man play, American Gadfly, produced in 2004, then tours.

Publish seminal essay What Is Hypertext? on Internet. Translated into several languages, establishes online reputation.
